Board Meeting Minutes-2010 State Shoot PDF Print E-mail

The annual WSCA Board meeting was held at the Washington State Shoot at Evergreen.

Board members in attendance were:

  • Matt Miranda

  • Linda Henson

  • Dave Hamilton

  • Art Heitlauf

The following was discussed:

  1. Treasurer’s report – Dave gave a report on what was being spent on the shoot and what is in the WSCA account

  2. Free shells were given to all registered youth shooters at the state shoot

  3. 2011 shooting schedule – a new process has been created and will be sent out to all clubs.

  4. Elections were held. The following were elected as the new WSCA board

    1. Ted Sapoznik – President

    2. Terry Redden – VP

    3. Dave Bartow – VP

    4. Linda Henson – Secretary

Mike Wilgus, Tom Ryan and Art Heitlauf are delegates. Art will give up his delegate position in 2011.

  1. Ed Edmiston talked about the shooters profile that he and Jerry Johnson do. He asked that others help in getting profiles/interviews. Ed will put together a list of interview questions to help folks know what to ask when doing an interview.

  2. Lots of discussion on how to promote Sporting Clays:

    1. Make things better at a club and then it will grow

    2. Target of the month for each club – give the clubs information on how to set different targets

    3. WSCA help pay for target setter to come and give instruction to clubs

    4. Cards to hand out to new shooters and youth on who to contact to learn more about the sporting clays

    5. Let all scorers shoot after the shoot to get them interested in sporting clays

    6. Develop a section on the WSCA website about who to contact if new people are interested in sporting clays and also put information about the sport on the site.

    7. WSCA work with the clubs to help promote sporting clays

    8. Have a board meeting and invite all the clubs to participate

    9. Invitational tournament and invite ‘professionals’ and their kids to get them interested in the sport

    10. Have a WSCA sponsored shoot

    11. Work with NSCA on getting ideas to grow clubs/shooters

  3. Promoting Youth Shooters – there was a lot of discussion on how to promote youths to our sport

    1. Give them a positive experience

    2. Look at the SCTP program

    3. Gun donations to kids (lots of folks have extra guns they aren’t using)

    4. Suggested talking to Fish and Game and NRA to get funding

    5. Suggested getting corporate sponsors

    6. Utilize some of the designated giveaway cash at the State Dinner to the youth

    7. Have clubs give discounted rates to kids at the annual State shoot

    8. Rotating clubs offer free entry for NSCA Junior and sub-Junior throughout the year

    9. WSCA to promote a tournament in 2011 that focuses primarily on the promotion of NSCA youth

    10. WSCA to promote and encourage local clubs to increase their involvement with the youth offering a new Promatic trap machine to one of the clubs.

  4. A BIG thank you went out to Matt Miranda and Debe Heitlauf for all their years of hard work and efforts toward fostering the growth of sporting clays in the State of Washington.



Everyone was enthusiastic about the great ideas that came from this meeting. The new Board will look into the feasibility of all that was discussed.
